The recession has made British homeowners realise how much their property is worth to them and has encouraged them to invest more in performing DIY improvements, a magazine has said.
Anna-Mara DeSouza, editor of Build It, said transforming a property into its maximum potential not only makes it a better place to live, but also leaves the homeowner with a better investment.
“It can be anything – a new lick of paint, changing door handles or sprucing up the exterior,” she commented.
“I would recommend that everyone tries out the smaller things – anything they feel comfortable with – and leave the more precise jobs to the professionals.”
Research from Everest found this month that 18 million people plan to improve their homes over the next year, with Britons expected to spend an average of £2,831 on their properties.
A further 3.3 million people will spend money fixing up the outside of their properties, according to the study.
