1 in 3 won’t buy a property without mobile signal

One in three people would not buy or rent a home unless it had mobile phone reception, a new study has found.

Research by property portal Globrix.com found that 35 per cent of people considered mobile reception a necessity, while 12 per cent would expect a discount on the rent or asking price if a home had no signal.

The study suggested that mobile phone reception has become a must-have feature for potential homeowners and tenants, with 84 per cent of house-hunters admitting that it would affect whether they made an offer on a property.

Jennifer Warner from Globrix.com said: “Technology is becoming an increasingly important factor in the renting and buying process because it’s such an integral part of people’s work and social lives now.

“However, official figures suggest that at least one in ten UK properties is likely to encounter the issue of not having a mobile signal, so it’s certainly something that both buyers and sellers need be aware of.

“Finding the right property isn’t just about bricks and mortar anymore – people expect to be able to communicate from the comfort of their own home and for many, a standard landline connection just won’t suffice.”
