When it comes to designing a home, everyone can be a bit fussy. When looking to buy a house and inspecting the interior, each of us may note a range of things we would change. This wallpaper design will have to go, one might imagine. The ceiling colour does not go with the furniture and the style of flooring looks awful.
Of course, these opinions may differ markedly from those of the designers or current occupants, but once into a new home, many people will want to apply their own style to it. Alternatively, they may want a change of style after a few years.
When it comes to carpets, one choice is to get a roll of the material in a preferred colour or combination and lay it out. For many, this is quite enough, providing a nice, new cosy carpet that looks superb and fits nicely with the rest of the room’s design and ambience.
But for those who like to be a bit different and a little creative, this may not do. Instead, something more innovative could be required. And that is where carpet tiles come in.
Because each tile only covers a small area, those buying them can pick from various designs, with each having its own shade or colour. As Buzzle.com put it when discussing bedroom flooring: “Carpet tiles available in many colours and patterns are also a great option for bedroom floor tile designs. If it is about laying flooring in the children’s room, you can have some bright-coloured floor tiles installed. They will add to the cheer in your children’s room.”
Carpettile.co.uk suggested much the same thing, noting that “fun designs” could be a feature of kids’ rooms, with “interesting patterns” being possible.
Indeed, the freedom offered by mixing different tiles is obvious. They could be used to spell out a name or create a symbolic shape. They could include all the colours of the rainbow if so wished. Who could have imagined that cheap carpet could offer an almost unlimited range of possibilities?
Of course, it may be wise to construct a few drawings of the floor in question before buying the tiles. And the type of carpet should be considered too. For instance, Berber carpets may still be problematic if there are clawed pets about. But with a little bit of planning and preparation, the creative homeowner could design a stylish, original and highly attractive floor and have great fun bringing their dream to life.
